Have you ever wondered why there are three different concepts for one word in the English language, for instance  weird ,  odd  and  strange ? This is because native and foreign terms co-exist in English:  weird  derives from Old English,  odd  from Old Norse and  strange  from Old French. What do we mean by borrowing as word formation??? Borrowing is another formation process in which a word from one language is borrowed directly into another language. Words which originated in one language are now used in another, even by people who don’t speak the ‘lending’ language. WHAT DOES ACRONYMS MEAN??? Acronyms are  words created by combining the first letters or syllables  of each word in a phrase to create a new, single word. These are  words in which initialism is pronounced as a word.  It is formed from first letter of each word in a phrase and the newly formed letters create a new word that helps us speedy communication . Some acronyms are a bit of both: They contain first letters  and  first syllables from the words in a phrase to create a new word.  Radar is an example of this; it’s derived from the phrase “ ra dio  d etection  a nd  r anging.” In both cases, an acronym is pronounced as a word. Acronyms are often misinterpreted as the first letter of a phrase or company/organization. What do we mean by Abbreviation as word formation process Abbreviation is another commonly used word formation used to shorten a word or phrase.   With the presence of the internet making the social media a part of our lives, the importance of the language of the internet cannot be overemphasized as it has drastically increased our words through different word formation processes. What is derivation as a word formation process???   Derivation: Is a word formation process that attach derivation affixes to the main word/form to create a new word.  In broad sense, it is the formation of words by changing the form of the base or by adding affixes(prefixes&suffixes) to it.  For word, to which we  attach affixes. These affixes are usually described as prefixes and suffixes and they are  not usually listed separately in dictionaries.  Such affixes usually apply to words of one  lexical category (part of speech) and change them into words of another such category. Some common examples include un-, dis-, mis-, -ness, -ish, -ism, -ful and -less, as in  words like unkind, disagree, misunderstand, kindness, childish, behaviourism, useful  and useless. What are lexemes???  Lexemes are words with specific sounds with no reflection. Additionally, are theoretical construct that correspond roughly to one of the common of the term. Its shape may vary depending on syntactic context. Lexemes, also called word stems, are minimal units of language (often words) with distinctive meanings. The word cut is a lexeme that would be a dictionary entry, but its inflected versions, e.g., cuts, cutting, etc., may be included depending on the dictionary. These inflected versions may be included as variations.    Types of Lexemes   There are two types of lexemes: variable and invariable   1.Variable lexemes  are word-sized lexical items that may have two or more forms. Because morphemes make up all words in the  English language , learning morphemes unlocks the structure and meaning within words.
